Homebase
I wanted more control over my apps, and an easy place to try things out. I had an old desktop sitting unused at home, so why not put it to work? Every bit of it is written as code, nothing is open to the internet, and if it dies I can rebuild it in under an hour.
How it works
Tap a step for the details.
A spare desktop, now running Ubuntu and hosting my money app, a family password manager, bookmarks, PDF tools, automations and a shared database.
Ansible sets up the box, Docker Compose runs each app, Terraform sets up Cloudflare.
Private access over Tailscale. Public apps go through a Cloudflare Tunnel with a login wall.
App data backs up to cloud storage every night.
Alerts when an app is down, plus CPU and disk graphs. A bot opens a PR when an app has a new version.
